How to get to Coconut Garden Koh Chang

There are several ways to get to the ‘Elephant’ Island Koh Chang!

Getting to Koh Chang from Bangkok

Alternatively, you can take the bus from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Koh Chang. For more information, feel free to go to this link www.bussuvarnabhumikohchang.com. You will then take the ferry to Koh Chang. There are two ferry companies that travel to the island, one from Laem Ngop and the other from Ao Thammachat, depending on whether you use the public bus company (Bor Kor Sor) or the private bus company (www.bussuvarnabhumikohchang.com). The ferry price is included in the private bus company ticket cost. When you arrive at the island, take the local taxi (called a Songtiew, a pick-up truck with benches in the back) and tell them “Coconut Garden” in the Bang Bao area. Prices should be handeld beforehand. They will take you to our resort. This is the name of our resort in Thai in case the taxi driver doesn’t understand you: “สวนมะพร้าว”

You can take a minibus from almost anywhere in Bangkok. Just step into one of the many touragencies or ask the accomodation your staying at. It should cost you around 600/700 baht. The ferry ticket should be included and they should drop you off just in front of our resort.

You can also go to one of the government busstations and hop on a minivan from there. This should cost arounds 350 baht. If you shoose this option, they will drop you off at the ferry where you can arrange your own transportation to our resort.

Bangkok Airway is the only airline who operate the route BKK to Trat. For more information, feel free to go to this link: www.bangkokair.com The costs are usually around 2550 THB plus 200 THB tax. A limousine service runs from Trat Airport to Koh Chang and is 500 THB – tell them that you are staying at “Coconut Garden” in the Bang Bao area and they will drop you off at our front door.

Getting to Koh Chang from elsewhere

Koh Chang can be reached from Koh Samet and Pattaya via private transfer or minibus, in one day. All tour agents sell tickets for the shared minibus services. Figure on 600 – 800 Baht / person. Avoid the public buses as they are much slower and involve changing vehicles a couple of times or more en-route.

It is also possible to get to Koh Chang from the three Cambodian border crossings at Poipet, Ban Pakard (Pailin ) and Koh Kong. From these three places you can catch either a bus or pick up truck taxi to Trat (via Chanthaburi if you’re coming from Poipet or Ban Pakard)
Then take a Songthaew (local taxi) to the piers at Laem Ngop.

You will find two ferry terminals on the mainland at Laem Ngop, everyone will end up at either one or the other and both take vehicles and passengers.
Ao Thammachat pier is used by Ferry Koh Chang, the ferry sails between the hours of 06.30 – 19.00 and runs every 45 minutes. You will arrive at Ao Sapporot pier on Koh Chang, and the charge is 80 Baht for passengers and 120 Baht for cars one way. This is the better of the two ferry piers.

The second pier is Centerpoint pier and is used by the Centerpoint Ferry company which allows cars on free of charge and passengers pay 80 Baht. The ferry runs each hour between 06.30 – 19.00 and arrives at Dan Kao pier on Koh Chang.

There aren’t any passenger only boats or speedboat services from the mainland to Koh Chang.
